What better place to spend Halloween than in Dracula's Transylvania. It’s a spooky mysterious time to be partying in this part of the East, following Draculas trail past castles, fortified churches, mountain chalets and quality local villages. Day 1: Budapest - Cluj
We leave Budapest and drive across the magnificent, sunlit Carpathian mountains. On arrival in Cluj, our local Transylvanian guide will show you the historical and cultural town of Cluj, before enjoying your first of many delicious traditional Romanian meals.
Day 2: Cluj - Sibiu (Sibiel)
After an early morning start we head towards Sibiu, the European Cultural Capital of 2007. Upon arrival we'll venture on a city walk through the magnificent old town before enjoying an afternoon of exploration. Late afternoon we make our way to Sibiel, a nearby traditional village where an evening of cultural festivities awaits. Indulge in a real Transylvanian home made dinner complimented with traditional music and dancers in original costumes, as well as accommodation in a cosy, home stay pension.
Day 3: Sibiu - Brasov
After a fresh, mountain breakfast we set off to Brasov. Make the most of a full day in Brasov! We'll set off on a morning walking tour through the cobble stoned streets of the old town, followed by an afternoon of shopping and sightseeing in medieval Brasov. Tonight is yours to choose the cuisine of your choice in the cosmopolitan old town
Day 4: Brasov - Bran Castle
Rise early to make the most of a full day discovering the myth and legend of Count Dracula. We will visit the castle which will bring alive your childhood memories of Dracula. It's an amazing, intact castle that really gives the spooks. On returning to Brasov, we'll begin our build up to the party the following night.
Day 5: Brasov - Sighisoara - Racatau (Mountain Lodge) Halloween
Before arriving at our Halloween party destination, we stop over at a local gypsy village where you have the chance to get up close to the real ethnic mix of Transylvania - this is not a tourist village but a real life experience! We then travel on to UNESCO listed Sighisoara, Dracula's birth place, for a buffet lunch in the old town. Take the time to wander through the city centre, atop of the medieval citadel, whilst enjoying the stunning views of surrounding Transylvania. Its then onto Racatau where our mountain lodge and evening Halloween festivities awaits, nestled within the Transylvanian forest. Traditional cuisine, local hospitality, bonfire festivities, music, prize giveaways and more will make for an unforgettable Transylvanian Halloween. A masked costume is a must!
Day 6: Racatau (Mountain Lodge) - Cluj
Day of relaxation, recovery and leisure to go hiking through the surrounding forest and discover Romania's unique landscapes. Or go horse riding the traditional way with a local expert, jump on a horse and cart for a ride around the local villages, or simply take in the surrounds and fresh mountain air from your cosy hideaway, before the short drive in to Cluj. Tonight we dine in style, a last farewell meal on top of Cluj.
Day 7: Cluj - Budapest
After breakfast we depart for Budapest, armed with DVDs, ready to travel back over the Hungarian Pusta to Budapest, leaving you with an unforgettable Halloween experience!
